Knock Basilica
Knock Basilica
Project Details
Location: Knock Basilica, Knock, County Mayo, Ireland
Located at Ireland’s national Marian shrine, visited by over 1.5m pilgrims each year. In 1979, Pope John Paul II visited the shrine to commemorate the centenary of the apparition and establish the shrine church as a basilica.
Challenge
Completion of the major overhaul of the basilica interior, working with Wejchert Architects. Church seating was needed that would allow the free movement of people between rows.
ICS Furnishers solution
- We designed flip-up auditorium church seating, which is unique to Knock, so as to enable free flow of movement for the thousands of visitors.
- We manufactured and installed 4,300 church seats as well as altar furniture.
- Our special solid hardwood flip-up type of seating replaced tubular metal chairs with plywood seat and back.
