Challenge

ICS Church Furnishers were asked to visit the church and to make a recommendation on the restoration of the pews in the church. After many years of service the pews were worn and damaged and the leatherette kneelers were in bad need of repair.

Following a visit to the church and having taken a pew away for assessment at our works, the project commenced and all the pews were removed from the church and brought back to our work shop in Dromod Co. Leitrim. The restoration process was as follows:

• Dismantle pews into individual components
• Remove all lacquer back to raw timber
• Modify benches to equal length and make good all junctions.
• Replace elements of heavily worm attacked timber
• Reassemble
• Balance colour of timber throughout
• Finish with three coat mat acrylic lacquer to achieve durable contract finish.
• Manufacture new kneelers covered with contract quality leatherette.
• Pews were delivered and installed to site.
